Cordia dentata (family Boraginaceae)

Common Name: White Manjack

White Manjack is a small tree that grows to about 6 meters in height. At the base it is generally multi-branched forming a crown above. Often branches droop down. The tree bark is light brown in color with vertical fissures. It is native to the Central American region. It belongs to the cordia genus which consists of about 228 species and are mostly shrubs or trees; they have tubular fragrant flowers. The simple leafs are arranged in an alternate manner; the leaf margin is gently dentate; the leafs are papery in fell. The leaf stalk measure around 1.8 cm; the leaf length is about 5.4 cam and breath 5.4 cm; they are oval in shape. The leaf nerves are exposed extrude out of the leaf-lower surface. The leafs are dark green above and have a light green shade on the lower side. The inflorescence is in the form of a paniclue cyme. The bell shaped flowers are white in color, fragrant and measure in length about 1 cm. The five anthers are seen, well enclosed inside the flower tube. The flower has 2 styles. The fruit is in the form of a elliptical in shape and considered edible.
