Papilionanthe subulata (Willd.) Garay (Orchidaceae- Vanilla family)

Common name: Butterfly orchid

Found in India and Sri Lanka, this orchid is occasionally found on as an epiphyte on trees in mountainous regions of western ghat. This specimen was found in Munnar town growing on Prunus cerasoides (Himalayan cherry tree). The orchid seems to have cylindrical leafs and appear like sticks. The inflorescence is in the form of a few flowered raceme. The flowers are pale pink in color and very attractive.
