Common Name: Joined Hedyotis. Tamil Name: Kudal churiki

H articularis is a sub-shurb endemic to the western ghats. I have seen this plant in Nilgiri hills and the Palani hills. It grows to around 2 meters in height, often grows on rocky mountainous areas. The bark and overall appearance of the plant is brown-black in color. The angular branches have simple leafs arranged in an opposite and decussate manner. The leafs are clustered near the stem but not sessile. The inflorescence is in the form of a cyme and flowers come in attractive lilac color. The dark blackish-blue calyx stand in sharp contrast to the flower color. The fruit is in the form of a capsule.
