Veronica polita (Plantaginaceae- Isabgol family)

Common Name: Grey Field speedwell.

Procumbent herb probably native to the Himalayan region. Often found around hill station towns in Western Ghat area on road-side and fallow lands. Never seen this plant in the plains: prefers the wet cold conditions above 1700 MSL. The simple leaves are arranged in an opposite manner and the plant is pubescent with white hairs. The leaf stalk and leaf measure around 8 mm and 1 cm respectively. The leaf margin is dentate, the incision on the leaf margin are very deep, almost giving the leaf a lobed shape. The leaves are ovate-round in shape, with an acute tip and a slightly cordate base. The inflorescence is axially cyme with a few flowers. The flower stalk measure around 1.6 cm . The flowers are tiny and come in blue color with white streaks. The fruit is in the form of a capsule.
