Common name: Bushgrape. Tamil name: Kattuprandai.
Bushgrape is native to America and was perhaps introduced into India. It is a deciduous climber or liana with trifoliate leaf arrangement. The leafs are palmately trifoliate. The middle leaf is larger than the side leafs. The leaf margin is dentate. Opposite to the leaf node tendrils arise which enable the plant to climb over nearby plants and other structures. The tendrils are springy and have a lusty look. The inflorescence is flat topped and axillary. The disk-flowers have four petals which are yellowish. The fruit is in the form of berry which is initially green and turn black when fully ripe. The fruit contains 4 seeds. Bushgrape vine tubers are considered poisonous.
