Eclipta prostrata (Asteraceae-Sunflower family)

Common Name: False daisy. Tamil Name: Karisilanganni

False daisy is a herb that grows to about 15 cm in height, sometimes found prostrate. The simple leaves are arranged in an opposite manner and are nearly sessile. The entire plant is covered with white thin small hairs. The stem is slightly rusty. The leafs are simple and arranged in an opposite manner. The leaf measure around 6.5 cm in length; leaf across measure 1.5 cm. leaves have rough fell on both sides and has a slightly dentate margin. The leaves are lanceolate-elliptic in shape with a cuneate base. The inflorescence is mostly axillary-bearing a few flower heads. The flower-head stalk measure around 1.5 cm and the flower head across measure around 8 mm. The petals are white. Often found in fallow lands around Tamilnadu. The plant is much valued for its medicinal properties in both Siddha and Ayurvedic systems of medicine.
