Common Name: Long-flower barleria. Tamil Name: Vellai kurinji
Endemic plant of Western Ghats, the entire plant is velvety hairy it grows to a height of about 1.5 meters. The plant has simple leaf structure and leaf arrangement is opposite. The leaves are light green in color and velvety on both sides. The leaf stalk measures around 1.7cm; leaf length is around 4.6 cm and breadth 2.4 cm. The leaves are ovate-elliptic in shape; base attenuate and have a pointed tip. The flowers are white with a shade of purple. The flowers are around 3.3 cm long and have two long 2 anther filaments which are pink tipped. The fruit is in the form of a capsule. This plant can be deployed as an ornamental shrub. This plant is commonly seen around Annaikatti mountain ranges of Coimbatore District, mass flowering can be witnessed around January and February months.
