Common name: Perfumed passion flower, Grape leaved passion fruit.
Perfumed passion flower plant is a large tendril based climber. It spreads more side-ways that vertical. It can easily spread out to around 8 meters. The plant is native to the tropical South America. The stem of the plant is cylindrical with brown short soft hairs. The leafs are prominently and deeply trilobed with serrate margins. The simple leafs are arranged in an alternate manner, the leaf measure around 10 cm in length and the leaf stalk measure around 2.1 cm respectively. The upper surface of the leaf is bright green and the lower surface dull green. The leaf nerves are prominently exposed below. The leaf stalk and the leaf nerves have a reddish streak.The leafs are downy and soft to touch. From the leaf axis tendrils grow out which help the plant to spread out. The base of the leaf is cordate and the leaf tip rather rounded. The flowers are bright crimson and about 9 cm across and are very attractive. The center of the flower is further decorated with white and bright red corona elements. The buds are covered by three yellow-green bracts which are leafy (around 3.5 cm each) with the edges are gland dotted. The flower is bisexual, with unto 9-10 distinct petals and actinomorphic. The fruit is in the form of a pulpy berry that contain several seeds. The fruit is edible, but has little commercial value. Differs from P Coccinea: in P Coccinea the leafs are not trilobed, even if so, they are very shallowly lobed.
