Torenia bicolor (Linderniaceae- Linderna family)

Common Name: Two-color wishbone flower

Two-color wishbone is a herb endemic to the Wester Ghat region and is mostly a prostrate plant. It is found in moist places and sometimes on road-sides. Although the plant has an extensive range over the Wester Ghats region one rarely encounters it. The plant stem in rectangular in shape and has dark purplish streaks. The simple leaves are triangular-ovate in shape with an acute apex and a heart shaped base. The leaf veins have a purple color. The leaves measure around 2 cm each and have a toothed margin. The inflorescence is axillary and solitary. The flowers are dark blue in color, the hood petal is purplish black in color. The color of the petal is highly variable. The fruit is in the form of a capsule.
