Common Name: Shrubby leucas.
Shrubby leucas is a sub-shrub found which grows to around 1.5 feet high and is endemic to the Indian Peninsular region. It is found in shola forest areas and shola grasslands and prefers the high altitude areas of Western ghats. The shoots are square in shape, with long hairs seen on most parts of the plant. The leafs are simple, sessile, arranged in an opposite manner; the leaf margin is entire. They measure around 3 cm in length. They are linear in shape, with long hairs on the upper surface with a rather wooly appearance. The inflorescence is whorled and flowers are bisexual, tubular and zygomorphic. The calyx is light yellow in color. The petals are snow white in color and bearded. The fruit is in the form of nutlets. I have not encountered this plant in the plains, probably has a narrow geographical spread.
