Ravenia spectabilis (Rutaceae- Lemon family)

Common Name: Lemonia

Lemonia is a shrub of Brazilian origin, it grows to a height of about 2 meters. This plant is off-late planted in Tamilnadu in urban house gardens and parks as a ornamental plant. The shrub has a brownish bark and emits a garlic smell when crushed. The glossy green leaves are arranged in an alternate manner; the leaf margin is entire. The leaf stalk measure around 1.3 cm; individual leaves are sessile. The leaves are elliptic in shape with an acute tip and a cuneate base; they measure around 6.5 cm in length. The inflorescence is axillary and generally; two flowers are seen. The flower stalk measure around 6 mm. The flower is protected by 2 foliaceous sepals which are ovate in shape and measure around 1.2 cm each. The flower petals are pink in color and untied below. The flower tube measurers around 1.2 cm. The petals measure around 1.6 cm; some petals are smaller. The flower has four epipetalous stamens and a five-parted style. The fruit was not located.
