Lobelia alsinoides -Campanulaceae (Bellflower family)

Common name: Chickweed lobelia

Chickweed lobelia is a herb belonging to topical Asia. It grows to around 8-10 cm in height and is generally found in damp marshy areas. The stem is 3 angled and the plant spreads around rooting at nodes. The plant is succulent with an erect stem. The simple leafs are arranged in an alternate manner and leaf margin is crenate. The leaf stalk measure around 2 mm in length and the leaf measures about 9 mm in length. The leafs are ovate with a rounded base and acute apex. The inflorescence is axillary and solitary , flowers are blue/white. The flowers are bi-lipped, zygomorphic, tubular and bisexual. The flower stalk measure around 2.8 cm. The upper flower lobe has 2 lobes and the lower lip has 3 lobes. The petals are obovate and with a pointed apex: each measuring around 1 cm. The sepals number 5 and are star-shaped. At the center of the flower 5 whitish stamens are present. Lobelia genus belongs to the Campanulaceae family and consists of around 440 species of plants which are mostly herbs/shrubs. they have milky or watery sap. They have bi-lipped flowers which are zygomorphic
