Common Name: Ciliate leucas
L ciliata is a herb that grows to about 2 feet in high, occasionally found around moist deciduous forest areas of both Western and Eastern Ghat region. The stem is square, hairy and slightly prickly. The aromatic simple leaves are arranged in an opposite manner and the leaf margin is creanate and ciliate. The leaf stalk and leaf measure around 1.1 cm and 10 cm respectively. The leaves are oval in shape with an acute apex and base. The inflorescence is arranged around the stem in a circular manner, the flowers are sessile and bi-lipped. The flower tube measure around 9 mm and the flower across measure around 1.1 cm. The upper lip of the flower is brown in color and bearded; the lower lip is white in color. The calyx is star shaped (after opening), ribbed green, with 10 teeth. The calyx tube measure around 7 mm. The plant is considered medicinally useful.
