Common Name:
Lantana veronicifolia is native to Europe and is a climbing thrown-less perineal sub-shrub. The plant sometimes is seen fully prostrate. The stem is purplish in color and square shaped. The simple leaves are arranged in an opposite-decussate manner. The leaves are ovate in shape with soft velvety feel. The leaf margin is crenate; the leaf base is cuneate and apex acuminate. They measure around 2-3 cm in length. The inflorescence in the form of an axillary spike. The flowers are cushioned on set of multi-layered green bracts. The flowers are sessile, the calyx is cup shaped. The tubular flowers are white in color and the petals are joined together below. The throat of the flower has shades of yellow. The fruit is in the form of a circular drupe and contains a single seed. Occasionally found in Anaikatti hills near Coimbatore.
