Common Name: Shaggy portulaca
Shaggy portulaca is probably a native herb, often found in rocky dry forest slopes of Palakkad, in Kerala. This herb has tuberous roots and spreads around rocky mountains crevasses where there is little soil. The plant is succulent and branches are green with patches of purple. The leaves are arranged spirally, they are sessile, elliptic-lanceolate in shape and measure around 2.2 cm. The inflorescence is the form of a terminal cyme. The flower measurers across around 1.2 cm. The flowers have distinct 5 petals which are cream in color. The flowers are sessile, and hold several stamens. The style is trifid and the fruit is in the form of a capsule. The capsule contain several tiny black colored seeds.
