Vicoa Indica (Asteraceae- Sunflower family)

Common Name: Golden Daisy. Tamil Name: Mukkuttipoo

V. Indica is an annual herb often seen in forest fringes and waste lands in Peninsular India. It grows to a height of about a meter; the stem is terete, grooved and rusty in color. The simple leaves are arranged in alternate manner. The leaves are elliptic-ovate in shape with a pointed apex. Upper leaves are sessile, lower leaves have petiole. The leaves have an amplexicual (leaf enveloping the stem) base. The leaf margins are serrate. The flower heads produce yellow flowers which are in terminal or axillary cymes. The plant has excellent ornamental value and often used for decorations during Pongal festival in Tamilnadu.
