Richardia scabra (Rubiaceae- Coffee family)

Common Name: Mexican clover. Tamil Name: Beelie chedi.

Mexican clover is a plant of American origin naturalized plant in India. It is commonly seen around middle and high altitudes areas of Western Ghats. One can easily encounter this plant in hill cities like Ooty, Kodaikanal and Valparai along fridges of forest areas, tea estates and road-sides. The plant is covered with soft white hairs. It is a procumbent annual. Leaves are ovate in shape; leaf base attenuate and apex acute. The flowers are funnel shaped, appearing in the shape of a white star. The Flowers on borne on a flat platform like structure in capitate clusters. The fruit is in the form of a three seeded capsule.
