Ipomoea obscura (Convolvulaceae- Morning glory family)

Common Name: Obscure morning glory. Tamil Name: Chirutali

This plant is a twinning perennial plant seen in rural areas and forest edges in Peninsular India. The stem is light purple in color. Leaves are simple and arranged alternatively. The petiole is bend and measure around 3 cm. The leaf length is around 3.2 cm and breadth 4cm. The leaf shape is ovate, base cordate and tip acuminate. The flowers are in beautiful cream- yellow color. The flower shape is campanulate and measure around 2 cm in length. The seed is in the form of an elliptic shaped capsule. Ornamental plant suited for small gardens and terrace gardens.
