Common Name: Smooth justicia.
Smooth Justicia is a herb that grows to a height of about 1 meter and sometimes seen in road-sides in Coimbatore. The branches are green in color and ribbed. The simple leaves are arranged in an opposite manner; leaf margin is entire; the base of the grooved petiole is swollen; leaves are ovate in shaped; leaf margin acute and base cuneate or rounded. The leaf stalk measure around 2.1 cm in length; the leaf length and breadth measure around 4.5 cm and 3.2 cm respectively. The inflorescence segments of the plant is glandular with white hairs. The inflorescence is in the form of axillary raceme like compound cymes. The flower stalk measure around 1.6 cm and flowers are bi-lipped. The calyx has five teeth each measuring 4 mm and are lanceolate in shape. The flower measurers around 5 mm across and has two curved stamens. The fruit is a four seeded capsule. The plant may be often confused with Peristrophe species. However, the basic flower structure is very different in the case of J glabra.
