Common Name: Java cassia, Pink Cassia.
Medium sized beautiful tree with white-pinkish flowers, the tree grows to around 7-8 meters. The branches tend to droop down. The leafs are bi-pinnate and arranged in an alternate manner. The leaf is paripinnate and may contain around 12 pairs. The number of leaflets vary : generally 11 to 15 pairs are seen. The leaf stipule are sickle shaped and yellow-green. The entire leaf is around 30 cm long and each leaflet is around 3 cm long. The leaflets are elliptic-ovate in shape. The inflorescence is in the form of a raceme. The petals are pink- white in color. There is a heart shaped bract below each flower and the calyx is dark red. The flower consists of 5 petals. The flower encloses 10 stamens, 3 of them are larger. The large stamens have a swollen middle portion. The fruit is in the form of a pod which can measure to around 30 cm. Cassia javanica is a popular avenue tree in cities like Bangluru.
