Canscora diffusa (Gentianaceae- gentian family)

Common Name: Spreading canscora

Spreading Canscora is a herb seen in forest fringes around Moist forest areas of the Western Ghats. The plant measures around 15 cm in length and is mostly glabrous. The simple leaves are arranged in an opposite manner and are sessile. The leaves are ovate in shape, margin entire with a rounded base and an acute tip. The stem of the plant is rectangular in cross section. The leaf measure around 1.5-2 cm in length. The inflorescence is in the from of a lax cyme. The flowers appear with 3 petals which are pink in color. The flower measures round 1.5 m across. The fruit is in the form of a cylindrical capsule.
