Common name: Oldman’s cap. Tamil Name: Pallippundu.
Oldman’s cap is a near prostrate plant forming mats on the ground. Often generally around sandy areas of Dry forest areas and grass lands in Tamilnadu. The leaves are sessile and arranged around the stem in a circular manner. The leaves are shinning green in color; oblong in shape with an acuminate apex; and the tip is needle like. About 6-7 leaves are arranged at each axis; some of them as long as 1 cm others smaller measuring around 4-6 mm. The stem of the plant is tomentose and white dotted. The inflorescence is in the form of a terminal flat compact cyme. The flowers are very small and have 5 each of sepal, petals and stamens. The fruit is in the form of a ellipsoid capsule.
