Shaggy buttonweed is mostly a prostrate plant found mostly around forest fringes. The branches are greenish with purple patches and have white long hairs. The simple leaves are arranged in an decussate manner; the leaf margin is wavy. The upper leaf surface is rough and the leaves are sessile. The leafs are elliptic in shape with an acute tip. They measure around 1.5 cm. The flowers are borne on the branches and arranged in a circular pattern. The sessile flowers have a very short flower tube and have four petals which are purplish white in color. The flower encloses four stamens and a single style. The fruit is in the form of a ellipsoid capsule.
