Common Name: Mysore coral tree. Tamil Name: Erabudu.
Mysore coral tree is native to the Indochina region and grows to a height of 20 meters. It is generally seen between 500 MSL to around 1500 MSL in the Western ghat region. Often deployed in Coffee agro-forestry systems as a shade tree. Mysore coral tree is no longer a preferred agro-forestry tree species and has been replaced by faster growing trees like Silver oak. The leafs are trifoliolate, glabrous and leaf margin is entire. The central leaflet is the largest and measure around 16 cm, the side leaflets are smaller and measure around 14 cm. The inflorescence is arranged in a pyramidal shape and have several pea shaped orange colored flowers. The calyx is green in color and unequal. The largest flower petal measure around 3.2 cm. The fruit is in the form of a pod which measure around 12 cm. The pod looks completely flat at the top portion (nearly 1/3 length) and this portion does not contain any seeds. The pod is initially green in color and turn brown when fully mature.
