Bitter vine is native to tropical America, it is an aggressive climber and grow to around 6 meters in length. The plant was introduced into India as ground cover plant in Agro-forestry systems- it is now considered as an invasive plant. The simple leaves are ovate-triangular in shape, with an acuminate tip and a cordate base. The inflorescence is in the form of an axillary panicle. Flower heads are whitish-green in color. The fruit is in the form of a achene measuring 1-2 mm. Each plant can produce thousands of seeds they are dispersed by air. The plant also spreads through root eruptions and cover ground quickly.
