Erect plant with glabrous stem grows to a height of about one and a half meters. This plant has pan tropical distribution and is seen all over Peninsular India. The leaf arrangement is simple and alternate. The leaves are elliptic-ovate in shape; base attenuate and apex acute. Inflorescence in glandular, rachises is viscid. The calyx is tubular and densely covered with stalked glands. The flowers are sparkling white in color and star shaped. The flowering portion of the plant has a very prominent sticky feel. The fruit is in the form of a capsule which is reddish brown in color. The plant has extensive medicinal uses and is the larval host plant for butterfly-Zebra blue. You can also encounter similar plumbago plants with red and blue flowers-each being a separate species.
