Garlic vine is a large woody liana often planted in house gardens and parks. It can easily grow around hedges to around 10 meters. When leaves are wounded they emit pungent garlicky smell. The stem is dotted with brown spots. The leaves are arranged in opposite manner, two leaves are seen on each node (bi-foliate). The leaf stalk measure around 1 cm in length. Tendrils arise from leaf base which helps the plant to grow as a liana. The leaves are oblong-ovate in shape and grow up to 13 cm in length. The leaf margins are entire; leaf apex is acute. The inflorescence is in the form of terminal or axillary panicles. Flowers are bell shaped and lavender in color, the flower tube is white in color with lavender spots. Flowers fade into white color as they mature. The fruit is the form of a long linear capsule measuring about 26 cm, with a line around the middle. They contain numerous small membranous winged seeds. Widely used as an ornamental fence plant in India.
